2019

In 2019, we focused on classic 17th century English drama: a bunch of scenes from Shakespeare and William Wycherley’s acerbic and funny 1675 Restoration drama “The Country Wife”…

We staged “The Country Wife” in June at…

2018

In 2018, we focused on Staged Readings and workshops.

JÁ Staged Readings are our very own ARTIST’S LAB dedicated to experiencing theatre raw. Very few props, little costume, minimal set, live music on occasion. An opportunity for both budding and established actors to plunge into exciting scripts stripped to their central core – words and gestures alone.

A chance too for directors to workshop a pet project, for writers to hear and see their plays breathe free of the stress of an impending full production… And for audiences to experience the intimacy of action and emotion a few feet away from you…

Workshops are an opportunity for experienced and aspiring actors to exercise and hone their craft… and an opportunity for Já to meet new talent.

2017

In 2017, two months after the assembly that saw our association formally constituted, we staged our first mainstage show, a double bill at the Teatro do Bairro in Chiado!

The double bill comprised Oscar Wilde’s sensual and intense theatrical fragment, A FLORENTINE TRAGEDY, in which the universe shrinks into a room, and Anton Chekhov’s THE BEAR, where the clash between a widow and her creditor climaxes in a challenge to a romantic duel.

Our highlights reel from November 2017 set to Waltz No.2 by Dmitry Shostakovich is here
