CHANGE THROUGH THEATRE ROMANI project

We at JÁ are delighted to have hosted the European Theatrical Lab DEVISING THEATRE FOR UNHEARD VOICES AND UNSUNG STORIES at Centro Artes Marvila, Lisbon.

This event explored theatrical techniques to allow marginalised voices such as the Rromani people to bring their stories front and centre. During a one-week intensive programme, Rromani and non-Rromani artists from 7 countries – Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech republic, Greece, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain – were brought together to explore theatre techniques to shine a light on previously unheard and unseen Rromani stories.

The Rromani artists from other countries were brought to Lisbon as part of the OUR STAGE Erasmus project. The workshop culminated in a public showcase on Oct. 20 as part of a theatrical double bill event, The Last Sunbeam of Twilight

We are extremely thankful to Nelia Pinheiro of the Companhia Dance de Evora for making available to the group a rehearsal and performance space at Centro Artes Marvila.
