Mykolas Žilinskas Art Gallery
JAFEST 2024 – Kaunas, Lithuania.
The lower level of the Mykolas Žilinskas Art Gallery featured a joint Lithuanian-Finnish performance art documentation exhibition organised by Arnis Aleinikovas and Arina Lykova.
Titled “NŪDIENA“, this exhibition – first showcased in May 2024 in Pori, Finland – addresses the desire to delve deeper, to discover oneself, to affirm one’s identity, and to wash away societal expectations and roles. We want to heal the earth, ourselves, and reclaim safety and connection, even though ‘NŪDIENA’ offers the opposite—effects of anxiety, fear, and complete destruction of people, landscapes, and territories. The ‘NŪDIENA’ videos are recordings of live performances, fleeting moments in time that have become something “permanent”. “Permanent” for as long as the video files and the devices that play them exist. Time, as one of the essential elements of performance art, becomes a prolonged and repetitive moment.
